The Poetical Works of George MacDonald, Volume I

George MacDonald · 1893

A collected edition, not a first printing, and the printing this corpus's text for these poems actually is. MacDonald revised heavily for it: the poems here that also stand in A Hidden Life and Other Poems (1864) and The Disciple and Other Poems (1867) are printed in a later state, which is why they would not match those volumes and do match this one. Its own arrangement is editorial rather than by original volume — A Book of Sonnets gathers sonnets from several different books — so no line range in it is evidence for one earlier volume, and which volume or magazine printed a given poem first is not established here. date_note and date_uncertain say so on every poem dated from it. Witness is Project Gutenberg 9543, a transcription; the 1893 London Chatto & Windus printing is catalogued at archive.org/details/poeticalworks01macduoft, whose own scan carries no OCR text layer.
