The Heart of a Woman and Other Poems

The printed table of contents lists 62 poems, one to a page, pages 1 to 62 with no gaps, and all 62 are in this book. 61 were assigned from the witness on 2026-08-14. The 62nd, Illusions at page 50, was placed by hand on 2026-08-15, because the witness shows it and the scorer could not: its four lines each run to about sixty characters and the scan breaks every one of them across two lines, so half the sampled lines were not found and tools/books.py assign declined it at 0.50 against a threshold of 0.60. What the witness does show is the whole poem: the heading ILLUSIONS stands between the folios for pages 49 and 50, all four lines follow it in order, and the contents lists it at 50. The threshold was not lowered, and the poem’s position in the order below was derived from the witness by tools/books.py order like every other. Only its membership is by hand. The contents entry for page 54 reads Springtime; the heading over that page in the body reads SPRINGTIDE. The poem printed there is the corpus's Springtide, which the body matches line for line, and the corpus's separate Springtime is a different poem that this volume does not contain. Whether the printed contents really reads Springtime or the OCR misread it cannot be settled from the text layer and wants the page image. Recorded, not resolved. The order was derived from the body of the book and not from its contents pages: the range in order.source is the body, beginning after the last contents entry. Two poems came out of that with no position, Sympathy and Dawn, because each title is also a word in her verse — sympathy closes a line of Isolation on page 29, dawn closes lines in the title poem and in Gossamer — so the first and the last occurrence of each title fall in different places and the two derivations disagree. The contents pages put them at 4 and 7. That was not written into the order, which records only what the two derivations agreed on.
