The Wind Among the Reeds

First edition: London, Elkin Mathews, Vigo Street, W., 1899, read off the title page of the University of California Libraries copy. The volume prints 37 poems; 35 are assigned. The witness is a different printing from the corpus text, which follows a later revision, and the 1899 speaker-titles (Aedh, Hanrahan, Michael Robartes, Mongan, Breasal) were changed to "He" and to plain titles in 1906 — so most poems here matched on body rather than on title. Two of the 37 are left in the compilation: "Hanrahan laments because of his Wanderings", which Yeats rewrote as "Maid Quiet" so that the 1899 words are not the corpus's words, and "Aedh tells of the Rose in his Heart" (corpus: "The Lover tells of the Rose in his Heart"), whose text is identical but whose long lines the 1899 setting breaks across two typeset lines, so a line-for-line match cannot see it. Neither is a missing poem; both wait on a printing that matches the text held here.

Numbers rank the poems whose position in the book is known; they are not page numbers.
